The 1908 LHS Catalog

A remarkable record of what students and parents could expect from Lyons High School in its early years

Published for the 1907–1908 school year, this catalog dates from the earliest years documented in our LHS archive. Rather than a student annual, it was essentially a guide to the school for students and parents, describing the faculty, rules, curriculum, tuition and expenses, and other aspects of school life. It provides a remarkable record of what a student could expect at LHS more than a century ago, when the school’s course of study extended only through the Tenth Grade.

Robert Brown, Class of ’63

Robert Brown, Class of ’63, preserved a copy of this remarkable booklet and shared it with the LHS Alumni Association. Thanks to Robert, this early record of Lyons High School has been preserved for future generations.

Inside the Catalog

The catalog identifies the Board of Education and faculty; sets out rules for pupils and teachers; describes the course of study from First through Tenth Grade; and provides information about the library, music and expression, tuition and expenses. Its advertisements from Lyons businesses also offer a glimpse of the community surrounding the school in 1907–1908.
